RIP Land Desktop

The big news this week is Autodesk's announcement that, after several threats over the years, they are killing the Land Desktop and Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion products. This is big news that Land Desktop users have been dreading to hear. What does it mean? For those who want to stay with Autodesk products and keep current with each new release, it means you'll need to migrate to Civil 3D. For those who do not mind falling a few versions behind, your current Land Desktop software will continue to serve your needs. This announcement may also be the catalyst that jumpstarts your investigation of non-Autodesk software. If so, Carlson Software provides an outstanding alternative in their Carlson Survey, Civil, Hydrology and GIS programs. These can be purchased separately or together in their Civil Suite. You'll find plenty of Carlson information included in the website.

Support & Services for Facilities Management, GIS and BIM

Effective April 2008 That CAD Girl has agreed to partner with Raptor Software, a provider of web-enabled software solutions. Since 2000 Raptor Software has provided services across the United States specializing in:

Raptor Software is an independent software vendor (ISV) for Autodesk software. Our partnership allows us to offer a very competitive price on Autodesk software including AutoCAD and AutoCAD Map (as well as all other vertical applications).

That CAD Girl Partners with Carlson Desktop Solutions

We are also pleased to announce another strategic partnership with Carlson Desktop Solutions. Carlson Desktop Solutions is headed up by Paul Carlson and is a Carlson and Autodesk software dealer, training and support center having multiple offices across the state of Texas.

As with Raptor Software, this does not constitute a merger or joining of two companies but simply provides all parties additional resources to benefit our customers.

I have found that Paul's philosophy toward software sales, training and support closely matches mine: Making sure you are using the software you NEED, not simply what a salesman is able to sell you and focusing on whether or not you LEARN the software, not simply following perfect (and unrealistic) examples typically provided by the software manufacturer.

While our experience with the different survey, civil and construction software packages overlaps in many areas, Paul's team specializes in Carlson's data collection, machine control and stand-alone desktop software packages.

The Knowledge Base on Paul's website is a fantastic resource for AutoCAD and Carlson Software technical documents. Check it out here.

Custom Training

Do you have 2 or more people who need CAD training but can't find a class that's just right for them?

Our Custom Training classes are the perfect fit!

We conduct interviews with all participants, or their managers, to create a training class that specifically covers the areas most needed.

Custom Training can be held on your site or at our training center in Clayton, North Carolina.

$99 Productivity Assessments (travel charges may apply)

We know that the software you use is expensive and our goal is to make you and your office more productive so that you get more out of your investment.

For our Productivity Assessments, we visit your office and meet with managers or staff to evaluate current procedures. In a couple of hours we can make recommendations that can save valuable time and money. Sometimes just the suggestion of a new command or other available feature reduces time input from hours to minutes.

After our evaluation is complete you will receive a written report of our findings that will enable you to shift, juggle or make changes to increase the productivity in your office.
