Whether it's training, tech support or consulting, That CAD Girl considers these to be "trusted advisor" roles and will make recommendations that are best for you - regardless of the software or other consultants you are currently working with. We do this by asking a lot of questions up front to become as informed as possible about your company, staff and business practices.
If you need software or services that we aren't able to provide, we'll point you in the direction of one of our partners who can help you out without having to deal with high-pressure sales tactics.
CAD Training
Our philosophy when it comes to training is simple:
We are more concerned whether or not you LEARN what you came to learn than whether we are able to get through a pre-defined lesson plan on a given topic.
This is why you will find that we encourage most people to consider any of our Custom Training solutions instead of a typical Classroom Training option even though we will make less money this way.
Your cost in time and money for Custom Training, online or on-site, is usually a better value than that of a Classroom Training event. Why? In a Custom Training session, we will focus ONLY on the topics and features you need to cover. So, your Custom Training session may be accomplished in 1-2 days as opposed to Classroom Training lasting 4 or more days where you must also spend time covering many other topics you have no interest in or need to know. This means less time out of the office or away from production and, if applicable, less in travel time and cost.
Material presented in all Custom or Classroom Training classes has been developed with actual, real-world, typical project data to better train you to conquer "worst-case scenarios" that seem to occur on every project.
All training with That CAD Girl is eligible for PDH credit for NC licensed land surveyors and engineers. Online training will require successful completion of a short quiz to receive credit.
Training Policy
- Classes will not be cancelled due to low registration.
- Registration is required one week prior to class date.
- Dress code is casual (ties will be kept as souvenirs)
- Seating is limited so please reserve your seat as soon as possible.
- That CAD Girl has a No Refund policy but may grant credit toward future classes.
Custom Training & Project Mentoring - On Site
That CAD Girl provides Custom Training at your location or ours.
Training can be customized for one person or for several people using our data sets or your projects so that you get as much value as possible from this investment. Check out our list of classes for training ideas. Custom Training can be developed for any, all or a combination of the classes listed.
You might be surprised to learn that the cost for Custom Training, online or on-site, is very comparable to that of a Classroom Training Event if you consider that, with Custom Training, we will focus ONLY on the topics and features you need to cover. Custom Training covering ONLY the material you need to learn may be accomplished in 1-2 days as opposed to a 4 or more day training covering your topics plus many others you have no interest in or need to know.
Additionally, if you find yourself having problems or not able to work your way through a specific project, we can customize your training to walk through the project, start to finish, in order to get it completed.
Custom Online Training
Have a last-minute training request? Don't have time for travel?
Online training is quickly becoming the most popular form of training that we offer. Why? One reason is the immediate nature of it. Assume you are working on a project and just can't get your profiles to draw the way you need them to. In many cases we can schedule an online training class with only a few hours' notice.
And, like all other training, this training will be customized and personalized to you, your office and your project. Check out our list of classes for training ideas. Custom Training can be developed for any, all or a combination of the classes listed.

Classroom Training & Workshops
Classroom Training
Although most of our training is of the online or Custom Training variety, That CAD Girl also offers structured, Classroom Training on a variety of topics.
Classroom Training sessions are typically hands-on training with structured lesson plans and one or more instructors.
As stated above, all material presented in all training classes has been developed with actual, real-world, typical project data to better train you to conquer "worst-case scenarios" that seem to occur on every project.

Workshops
That CAD Girl schedules a variety of Workshops throughout the year. Workshops are typically demonstration & presentation with one or more instructors and many attendees.
Some Workshops may be a 1/2 or full-day session meant to introduce you to a new software program or new features of a program.

CAD Standards Development
CAD Standards have always been a critical issue in surveying, design and engineering offices - yet nothing ever seems to be resolved.
And since most of today's software programs either build National CAD Standards layers into the defaults or provide template drawings with standard layers created, standards will become even more important.
Whether it's the National CAD Standard or one developed in your office, That CAD Girl can assist you in creating new CAD standards or migrating old standards to one that is more streamlined and easier to follow. We can also assist in creating:
- Custom linetypes
- Hard copy or online handbooks
- Drawing template files
- Standards "check" files
- Menu items that force the use of standard layers and linetypes.
Flat rate fees are available for creation of drawing templates and standard check files from an Excel file that you provide.

CAD Skills Testing
That CAD Girl specializes in finding those "diamonds-in-the-rough" that, with proper training, can become your most trusted CAD drafter or designer.
Through our unique testing process we can provide a reasonable expectation of the potential employee's attention to detail, their desire to increase efficiency and their ability to progress with training.
Afterward, you will receive a thorough written or verbal report of each evaluation to help you make the best decision.
Productivity Assessments
The design software that we all use is many things… but it is not cheap!
It only makes sense to use the software as effectively and efficiently as possible in order to get the software do as much work for you as possible.
For our Productivity Assessments, we visit your office and meet with managers or staff to evaluate current procedures. We then discuss and evaluate your current processes with some or all of your staff to identify areas where the software is not being used to its maximum potential.
In a couple of hours we can make recommendations that can save valuable time and money. Sometimes just the suggestion of a new command or other available feature reduces time input from hours to minutes.
Afterward, you will receive a thorough written or verbal report that will help you develop a plan to use the software in a smarter way and get a better return on that investment.
Technical Support
That CAD Girl provides technical support when you need it and in a way that works best for you.
That means no contracts... period. And, most of the time, it's FREE!
Have a quick question about Carlson or Autodesk Software? Contact us by phone or email to see if we can help. In over 4 years of business, we've yet to charge for a technical support question. Most of them can be answered in a couple minutes - do we really need your credit card to answer that? No.
For project-related, "need an immediate answer" questions, we also provide online desktop-sharing technical support. This allows all parties to log onto a website and both see and operate the other's computer. This is sometimes the best support option when you have a problem you just can't get around and time constraints won't allow us to get together face-to-face.
When it's not a simple answer, it will be one of two other situations:
- We determine it's a problem or bug in the software. Even though we aren't able to address these questions directly (or immediately), we still want to know the issues that are out there causing heartburn so we can try to find a workaround or otherwise resolve the issue. And, it's an issue with Carlson Software, we can usually point you in a direction to get it resolved quickly.
- We determine it's an issue that would be resolved with training and we can develop a Custom Training solution with you.
For technical support that requires an on-site visit, our rates are reasonable and allow you to hang onto your arm and leg!
